Overview
Situated on the North Norfolk coast, the North Norfolk Railway links Sheringham to Holt, a charming Georgian town 5 miles away.
Like many heritage railways, the North Norfolk railway has had to adapt to Covid 19 limiting bookings to complete compartments. If you are prepared to share, they do offer Day Rover tickets on their diesel trains. When we were there in late June 2021, the train was sold out for many dates, booking ahead is advisable.
Sheringham
Sheringham is a thriving seaside resort with an. extensive seafront promenade, and a sandy beach at low tide. Except at high tide you can walk 5 miles along the coast to Cromer. Cromer is a much busier resort with a pier and a station on the line back to London. Alternatively at high tide take the scenic coastal walk to West Runton and Cromer. Allow 2-3 hours for either walk. To return to Sheringham, there is a frequent bus service or an hourly train service, journey time 10-20 minutes.
A further attraction are the gardens at Sheringham Park owned by the National Trust, this is a 2 mile walk from Sheringham station, offering great coastal views.
Sheringham is 3 hours and 20 minutes by train from London change at Norwich,. For tickets I find the Trainline site excellent https://www.thetrainline.com/train-times/london-to-sheringham. Please check opening times with the North Norfolk Railway http://www.nnrailway.co.uk
